October 2024 Update

What a spectacular day we had at the Halloween Shodeo! The fifth annual Halloween Shodeo was a special day set aside to celebrate our riders and all that they have achieved. Riders got to be in the spotlight as they rode a challenging trail pattern in front of family and friends. Everyone did amazing!

The horses and humans dressed up in creative costumes and got to take part in fun Halloween activities, including a photo booth, candy, and a warm bowl of chili in the chili cookoff.

Special thank you to all of the volunteers who worked to make the event run so smoothly! Thank you to the students and volunteers who participated and raised funds to support the mission at Renew.

And this event could not happen without the dedicated partnership of our generous business community who sponsored this year’s riders. Thank you!

Phase 2 Capital Campaign Update

As many of you may know, Phase Two of the Ride With Renew capital campaign launched earlier this year with the deconstruction of the aging hog barn and the construction of a new, fully accessible horse barn. This new building will provide our community with a safe, fully accessible space for expanded equine assisted services year round, while also allowing us to provide exemplary care for our equine ministry partners.

The Renew family has faithfully partnered in the mission over the past 15 years, and we would like everyone to be a part of this exciting new phase of service. As we near the finish line and seek to raise the remaining funds to finish the horse barn, we are inviting everyone to sponsor a paver.

Each paver is $100 and will be placed in the center aisle of the new construction. Sponsor as many you’d like. If you would like to sponsor a paver in memory or honor of someone else, please email that information to Cassie at communications@renewtrc.org after completing the sponsor form via the link below. Every person who sponsors a paver ($100 donation) will have their name added to a commemorative plaque that will be displayed in the finished horse barn.

The sponsor a paver campaign will close at the end of November.

Staff Spotlight: Liz Lesperance

Some of the staff members at Renew you may have known for years, and others you might only know by name. To help you get to know the staff a bit better, each month we will be featuring a staff member in our Staff Spotlight. This month’s spotlight is our Development Coordinator, Liz Lesperance.

I was born and raised here in Holland. I just celebrated my 10 year anniversary with my husband this October! We have 2 children: Lucas (9) and Emery (7). I have been around horses and riding since I was about 6 or 7. I have had my own Morgan gelding named Romeo for about 10 years and showed on the Morgan circuit through the midwest! I went on to GVSU where I graduated with a Bachelors in Elementary Education. Where I wasn’t as fortunate to find a job in an elementary school classroom, I have taught and have been involved in Adult Education (ESL and GED) for about 14 years! I have helped the Adult Education through Zeeland Public Schools with their programming along with teaching. Where I loved my position in teaching, it has always come back to the horses. What better way to put my passion; in horses and students! Thank you so much to Renew for the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing program!
