Celebrating our Core Values: CHRIST-CENTERED

This month we have the privilege of hearing from one of Renew’s Board members, Rob Housman, on what being Christ-centered looks like at Renew from his perspective.

At Renew Therapeutic Riding Center, we have identified four core values that drive how we serve the people in our community through therapeutic horsemanship. Those values are Excellence, Acceptance, Empowerment and Christ-Centeredness. We have had many discussions about what each of these means in our context at Renew, and we hope that everyone who shows up at Renew can see each of these values on display.

When we talk about Christ-Centeredness, what we mean is that we want to emulate Jesus as much as possible in all that we do. I think the easiest way to experience this is to show up in person to the farm. Over the past few years we have grown exponentially, which means more and more people are discovering Renew, and when they do, they find a radically loving and accepting community of staff and volunteers. Riders, families and volunteers find compassion, encouragement and commitment to their well being as people.

Much of Jesus’ ministry involved welcoming all kinds of people into his presence, identifying what those people need most and meeting those needs, whether it is a meal, a lesson or in many cases healing. Renew understands that everyone is loved by God and deserves to be treated as such.

1 John 4:19 says “We love, because he first loved us.” God’s love came to us in the person of Jesus Christ, and it is that love that we desire everyone to experience when they come to Renew.
